Every Managed VPS is backed up automatically. This article explains what's kept, for how long, and how to get something back.
What we back up
- Every DirectAdmin account, every night. Each backup includes the websites' files, databases and settings. It's copied to secure storage with a different provider, away from your server, so it's safe even if the server itself has a problem.
- The last 7 days are kept, so you can go back up to a week.
- A nightly copy of the whole server, which we use to rebuild the server if something serious goes wrong. Only the most recent copy is kept.
Getting something back
Open a ticket and tell us:
- the domain or DirectAdmin user,
- what you need back: a whole website, a database, or particular files or folders,
- the date to restore from, if you know when things were last right.
We can restore just the part you need, so the rest of the site isn't rolled back unnecessarily.
Taking your own backups
You can also make a backup yourself at any time, for example just before a big update. In DirectAdmin, open Create/Restore Backups, choose what to include and create the backup. You can restore from the same page.
Your own backups are kept on your server, so they use your storage. Download any you want to keep, and delete old ones you no longer need.
If your website has been hacked
Restore from a backup taken before the attack. Hacked sites often carry hidden code for days before anything shows, so if you're not sure when it started, choose an older date. Our guide What to do if your website has been hacked covers the rest.
