Moving your websites to your Managed VPS Print

  • 0

We'll move your existing websites to your Managed VPS free of charge. This article explains how it works and what we need from you.

What we need

Open a ticket once you've ordered, with:

  • the website addresses you'd like moved,
  • the name of your current host,
  • access to your current hosting: ideally the control panel login (cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin or similar), or FTP and database access,
  • for WordPress sites, an admin login can help too.

If your current host offers full account backups, a recent one speeds things up.

How the move works

  1. We copy your website files and databases to your new server.
  2. We check each site on the new server before anything changes for your visitors.
  3. We agree a time with you, then point your domain at the new server. If your domain is managed somewhere else, we'll tell you exactly which records to change.
  4. We switch on free SSL once the domain points at the new server.

Your website stays online throughout, served from the old host until the switch.

Your email

Email isn't hosted on your VPS, so the move itself doesn't touch it. If your email currently runs on your old hosting, tell us in your ticket, and we'll plan the switch so no email is lost. That might be a move to Professional Email, which includes one free mailbox with your plan.

Before you cancel your old hosting

Wait until we confirm the move is complete and you've checked your sites. We recommend keeping the old hosting for a few days afterwards, just in case.
