When your project is ready, you can publish it to a domain you own so anyone can visit it. Publishing needs the Start plan or above.
Before you publish
- Check every page for spelling, links and final wording.
- Preview it at desktop and mobile sizes.
- Submit each form once to check it works.
- Make sure your domain is registered and active. If you don't have one yet, register a domain with us.
Publish
- In Nova, click Publish.
- Select your domain. If it isn't listed, click Add New Domain and type it in full, including the ending, for example
example.co.uk. A typing mistake here is the most common reason publishing fails. - Click Publish again.
Publishing can take a few minutes. When it's finished, click View Your Project or visit your domain.
Pointing your domain at Nova
If Nova asks you to change your domain's DNS settings, and your domain is registered with us, open a ticket. Tell us the domain and copy in the settings Nova shows you, and we'll make the change for you. If your domain is registered elsewhere, make the change with that company.
DNS changes usually take effect within a few hours, but can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone.
Updating your site
Keep working on your project in Nova as normal. Your live site doesn't change until you click Publish again, so you can make changes without visitors seeing work in progress.
If something goes wrong
- Publishing fails or seems stuck: it's usually a temporary delay. Wait a few minutes and click Publish again.
- The domain doesn't show your site: check the domain is active and spelt correctly in Nova, and that you published to the right one. If you've just changed DNS, allow up to 48 hours.
- Images are missing on the live site: check they appear in Nova's preview. Upload or regenerate any that are missing, then publish again.
- Your changes don't appear: your browser may be showing an older copy. Refresh the page, or try a private or incognito window.
Still stuck? Open a ticket and we'll take a look.
