Site & Server Monitoring checks your website around the clock and tells you the moment it goes down, slows down or develops a problem, so you hear about it before your customers do. The server plans also watch a server's health. This article covers setting up your first monitor and your alerts.
Opening your monitoring dashboard
- Sign in to the client area and go to My Services.
- Click your Site & Server Monitoring service. (If you added it to a hosting plan, open the hosting plan and find it under Addons.)
- Click Log in to 360 Monitoring. The dashboard opens already signed in.
Adding a website monitor
In the dashboard, add a new website monitor and enter your website's full address, for example https://www.example.co.uk. You can then choose:
- how often it's checked, up to your plan's limit (every 10 minutes on Lite, 5 minutes on Personal, and every 60 seconds on the bigger plans);
- a keyword check: a word or phrase that should appear on the page, so you're warned if the page loads but shows an error instead of your content;
- SSL certificate warnings, so you're told before your certificate expires.
Add a monitor for each important page or website, up to your plan's limit.
Choosing how you're alerted
Lite sends alerts by email. The other plans can also alert you by text message and through apps such as Slack, Discord and Telegram. Set these up in the dashboard's notification settings, then send a test alert to check it arrives. It's worth having at least two ways of being told, in case one of them is the thing that's down.
Publishing a status page
You can publish a simple public page showing whether your websites are up, and share its link with customers or colleagues. Choose which monitors it shows, and it updates by itself.
Full Site Check (Personal and above)
Full Site Check crawls your website and reports problems a simple up/down check would miss: broken links, missing images and files, JavaScript errors and similar issues. Run one from the dashboard, then work through what it found. The number of pages it checks depends on your plan. Business and Enterprise can also run these checks automatically on a schedule.
Monitoring a server (Pro, Business and Enterprise)
Server monitoring watches a server's CPU, memory, disk space, network and load, and warns you before it runs out of resources. It needs a small monitoring agent installed on the server: the dashboard gives you a one-line install command when you add a server. This is for a server you manage yourself, such as a VPS. If you have a Managed VPS with us, ask us before installing anything on it.
Server monitoring isn't needed for a normal hosting plan: we monitor our hosting servers for you. Use website monitors for your site instead.
