Weebly is a drag-and-drop website builder with a built-in blog and online shop. You build your site in the Weebly editor, then publish it to your hosting plan with us, and it appears at your domain. This article covers getting started, the plans, and publishing.
You need a hosting plan with us
Weebly websites are published to a hosting plan with us, so you need one to publish. The easiest way is to buy Weebly with a hosting plan, or add it to your hosting plan from your client area: publishing is then set up for you.
Opening the editor
- Sign in to the client area and go to My Services.
- Click your Weebly service (or open your hosting plan and find it under Addons).
- Use the log-in button on its page. The Weebly editor opens already signed in.
Building your site
- Choose a theme. You can change it later without losing your content.
- Add pages from the Pages menu. Every plan allows unlimited pages.
- Drag elements such as text, images, galleries, contact forms, maps and videos onto each page, and click to edit them.
- Start a blog, if you want one, by adding a blog page. Posts are written and published from that page.
- Check the mobile view before publishing.
What each plan includes
| Plan | Highlights |
|---|---|
| Free | Unlimited pages, contact forms and basic search engine settings. |
| Starter | No adverts, and an online shop for up to 10 products (with a 3% transaction fee). |
| Pro | Site search, password-protected pages, HD video, up to 100 members, and a shop for up to 25 products (3% fee). |
| Business | Member registration, unlimited products with no transaction fee, stock tracking, coupons and a tax calculator. |
To move to another plan, open the Weebly service in My Services and choose to upgrade (see Upgrading or downgrading your plan).
Selling online
Add a store page, then your products, prices and pictures. Connect a payment provider in the store settings so customers can pay. If you're VAT-registered, set up tax in the store settings so it's charged correctly.
Publishing your site
Click Publish in the editor. Your site is uploaded to your hosting plan and appears at your domain within a minute or two. Publish again after any change to update the live site.
Already have a website on that hosting plan? Publishing puts the Weebly website in its place, replacing the old home page. Take a copy of the old site first if you want to keep it (see Backups and restore).
For your site to show at your domain, the domain must point at your hosting plan with us. See Pointing your domain at your website and email.
"There was an error publishing your site"
This usually means the editor can't upload to your hosting plan: the upload details are missing or a password has changed. If you have a hosting plan with us, contact our support team and we'll reconnect it. If you've changed the password of the FTP account Weebly uses, update it in the editor's publishing settings (see FTP accounts).
